Cadbury Update

I wasn't hallucinating! Today I looked at a Cadbury bar and it clearly states that it was manufactured by Hershey under license from Cadbury, so the US chocolate is not made at the same facility as Brit Cadbury. Will Kraft continue to license Hershey or will Cadbury sink beneath the waves? I must admit I bought the sumptuous bar and it really does taste better than Hershey's own.

Alright, that's it for food. I promise. Maybe.

Fear of Puff Pastry

I had been tip-toeing around the idea of trying to make puff pastry for quite some time, but I feared and anticipated failure.
I did not want to deal with yet another blow to my self respect.
But I bought the unsalted butter.
I had flour and water
and that's
about all you need.

Tonight I decided to give it a try.
When the little rounds of pastry were in the oven,
I turned on the oven light and saw them
crouching flatly on the cookie sheet.
Failed again.
Then something happened.
This was a test batch of four, and two of them
toppled over because
they
puffed themselves so high!

I shared them with the dogs and
we were all agreeably satisfied except I feel
as though I just drank a bucket
of warm lard.

It may be 1:30 a.m. but I am enjoying a slug of
Starbucks Colombian
to celebrate.

The rest of the pastry waits in the freezer.

ADP-ATP-ADP-ATP-ADP

Well once we get the world economy sorted out and settled down we can start worrying about The Next Big Thing, which, according to the BBC is Phosphorus Depletion!
Forget about Oil, it's Phosphorus that we need to worry about.
I think my grandfather was a guano dealer. He imported it from islands
off Chile and sold it to farmers and gardeners for fertilizer.
I think that today the seagull shit islands are quite depleted.
The prized ingredient in seagull shit is -- yes -- Phosphorus. I can't
quite see how the world could lose all its available Phosphorus,
but let's hope it doesn't happen
because it is Phosphorus, hopping off and on adenosine
molecules that is the true Meaning of Life.
That's how we get our energy.

It's nice to know that some people, somewhere, are actually
evaluating how long we can
plunder the earth
without a thought.
