How Good Can We Get?

How 'good' can anyone get?
I just had an inconsequential thought.  Well it's been creeping up on me for a while.
I think the sad and bitter truth is that human beings are a giant evolutionary mistake.  Our penchant
for violence to solve most problems may have seemed to make evolutionary sense, but
who knows whether non violence and intelligence combined may not have worked better than brute
force and stupidity?
Yes I saw Idiocracy.
We could manipulate our genome to select for all 'good' forms of intelligence and knock out all
violent gene combinations and controllers, but unfortunately I don't think any of us would ever have
the competence to do it right.
