Rereading this defunct blog I saw my post on Syria and remembered Aleppo which to me at that time seemed the loveliest of places.  I suppose the men with archaic looking licorice water dispensers are gone from the beaches.   I hope the children who crowded around them are all safe.   Are the great tankers still anchored offshore?
I hope the old caravanserai still stands as it has done for so many centuries.
I hope the people of Aleppo have not given up hope.
