Back to Basics

I seem to have abandoned the Inconsequentialities of life. My son has stopped blogging because he says it's a lot of meaningless people whining on about their meaningless lives. It's all inconsequential after all. However, I plan to continue picking up discarded and forgotten stuff and occasionally writing about it. If I keep my sights set low I will continue to enjoy life. Whatever. Yesterday I found a pen that had been run over but still worked well and a Bic lighter that still produces a steady flame. I think I will start a Found Item Index which could be used for measuring the state of the economy. I know that I am no longer finding spoons as often as I used to, but then at Quartzite the other day I found a quite splendid dinner fork. It had heft and grace and was nicely curved as it had not been run over. It was a copy of a Victorian pattern and did not have a Made in China look to it. It was actually made in Korea. I am finding coins at about the same rate as always. Mostly pennies, but one day last week I found a quarter, a penny and a dime separately. Not exactly in the found object category, but definitely inconsequential, I also acquired yesterday a horrible silver (plastic) heart shaped Victorian style box with a black velvet cushion in it. It contained a rather nice '30s style wrist watch. I purchased the whole thing for seven dollars. I gave the horrible box to the checker at W'Mart and she was very happy........ I needed a new watch.
