What if........

Well my q was answered by some talking head. We would submerge totally as a nation if we all saved up for our houses, cars and kids' college. But wait!! If I save up for a tiny little cheap house and it takes me five years and I don't keep my cash under the bed isn't that money in a bank at low interest to me, but the bank is lending it out for municipal bonds etc presumably safely so why would our country crash? I don't get it. Speculators could still speculate.
My dad put his money in the Halifax Building Society until he could buy a house. That's what the Halifax Building Soc did in the 1940s. It took care of your money and invested it safely. I guess it changed its Mission Statement.
